Le Cheile are an acoustic duo playing guitar, accordion, voice and piano. Although their background is in Irish music and song, they also sing acoustic covers by artists such as Sheryl Crow, Passenger and John Mayer.
Shona is one of the country's leading exponents of piano accordion, having performed across the country and beyond in venues from Canada to Spain. Steeped in the Irish tradition but also singing and playing a variety of acoustic material with style and panache on piano and accordion, Shona is sought after as a performer having collaborated with everyone from The Levellers to Kathryn Tickell.
In 2002 Shona was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award competition. In 2003 she was guest accordionist with the Northern Sinfonia in their production of the "Threepenny opera" and in 2004, Shona was the only female and only traditional musician out of 2000 applicants to be awarded one of the first five BBC Fame Academy Bursaries, to enable talented young musicians to develop their professional career. Recently she recorded on The Levellers’ latest single ‘The Recruited Collier’. Blending traditional and self-penned material, Shona brings old and new together in her live act, performing with an intensity and verve that belies the stuffy stereotypes of the folk world.
